This is England uses red white and blue to signify the countrys chosen flag colours. This suggests this film reflects typical social issues that appear in the UK;all the sets our based in London. The letters are in bold capitals to add emphasis to the theme of the film and that stereotypical English trates are the main aspects of this film.
This is England is based on London in the 1980's, this is refelcted through the clothes each charcter is wearing.
They are lined up in a way which allows them to look rebelouis, some leaning back on the wall whilst others rest their feet on it. This is also re reflected that the title and the slogan are printed on the wall as a type of grafiti. All the charcters are standing up and all remain in a line to potray there is no hierachy in this group, there is no clear leader. This connotes they are a community of thugs rather than a gang following one deemed more powerful.
There are parts of an estate shown behind them this is a steryotypical place for working class youths to be based. The slim view we have of the tower blocks is iconic of London which also emphasizes the poorer aspect pf London.
The certification of the film is 18, with the intended audience being 18-30 as the tagline 'Summer 1983. Time to stand out from the crowd' suggests being different to others. The demographic of the film is both men and women, young and old, as the poster shows gender of all ages, and perhaps people whose childhood was during the 1980's. The director Shane Meadows is also a well known BAFTA winning British director, known for his numerous short films - widening the audience to short film makers and spectators with the mention several awards won also.
The film has also be reviewed by Total Film and Empire, specific film review magazines, which widens the audience to people who go the cinema as a hobby. The Observer is also a middle class newspaper widening the demographic even more. The sort of person that would be attracted to this film might have knowledge or a first hand experience of this time. Politically 1983 Britain created a lot of animosity among young people creating social groups and a divid between people and politics. This intertextual reference relates to someone looking at the poster that this film might touch upon the ideas and conflicts of this time. The composition of the image is with the character all lined up at the bottom looks really effective. The use of the visual element line, emphasises the top of the poster and some of the reviews and ratings that might persuade someone who may not have much knowledge about the film or ideas to watch. The photography is a strong element in this picture it has been composed in a way to feel realistic like an almost photograph. The typology of the movie title correlates this with a typology that resembles graffiti (something we would also associate with youth cultures).
Kidulthood is based around tennage youths who are displayed in the film poster. The title of the film ‘KiDULTHOOD’ is centred just below the middle of the poster, under the main image. The text is white and bold over a darkened background, making it stand out and appear prominent on the poster. The i in KiDULTHOOD is in lowercase lettering whereas the rest of the name is in capital letters. This implies immaturity, and the progression needed, and found throughout the film to become an adult. The lowercase ‘I’ also stands out and makes it appear like one of the characters does not belong within the community of ‘kids’. It also signifies that the characters are trapped in an adult world that they are not fully prepared for. The writing style, the use of uppercase and lowercase, is a style of slang used amongst teenagers therefore it may be a reflection of today’s teenage society and be mocking the fact that they are portrayed as illiterate. The background is darkened and has an eerie feel to it. The darkness represents the narrative and dark themes that run through the film. However the small rays of sunlight in the background represents freedom and hope, that the teenagers are attempting to grasp when entering adulthood towards the end of the film. But as the light is struggling to be seen the negatives tend to be overpowering the positives.
The character on the far right is immediately higlighted as the trouble maker or antagonist as he has an aggressive expression and is holding a baseball bat. The baseball bat connotes violence and even could be juxtaposed that he is insecure and vunerable and carrys a weapon as comfort and protection figure. In contrast, one of the boys is sat on the floor looking inferior and vulnerable suggesting bullying is a key theme as he looks intimidated rather than them showing some sort of relationship. All charcters are viewed as confident and having a bad attitude.Their body language shows how they are trying to be intimidating and show off but in an alternative reading, they are seen as naive and stupid and the type of teenagers who get themselves in unessesary trouble. The setting of the picture reflects the urban area and showing little to the audience where the film will be set. This allows the film idea to potray more realistic and give the auidence a sense of mystry, allowing them to in many cases sterotypically guess the setting of kidulthood. Billing blocks are featured on posters to give recognition to actors, directors, producers, and crew, giving the audience more information if they want it. It is in small writing, making it not seem important or prominent on the page. In contrast to the film review, actors names are incredibly small, suggesting that because they are not well known (because it is a social realist drama using unknown actors) they cannot be used to promote the film and are not as important in selling/marketing the film.

Fish tank the main title is in the centre of the poster although there is very little free space around it, it appears to be trapped amoung other words and phrases.
The girl in the main image portrays the stereotype of a 'chav'. The black sleveless top she is wearing is very basic represents her economic class as low which is reinforce in the background image.
The frequent colour clash between pink and blue connotes elements of romance which may appear throughout the film. This is further impacted by the smudged pink heard on her wall representing that love may have a negative impact on her life.
They have used a range of different fonts within the poster mainly sans-serif fonts, this is used for the title of the film; as this is quite a modern font it portrays that it is set in modern day – which would make it relatable for people of today.
The mise-en-scene is very dull and unexciting which could foreshadow the girls life within the film. The tag line ‘Live, love and give as good as you get’ which suggests she comes doesn’t have much in her life at that moment in time and she always tries to live life with what she’s got.
The poster also has reviews from different magazines and newspapers which draws the audience in because it’s had good reviews from well known places. It also has the age certificate which is clear for the audience. It also clearly shows the main famous actors and who it’s been written and directed by. It’s also has the date written largely across the bottom of the poster very bold and clear which means the audience won’t forget the date.
The poster also has very small logos of the institutions and companies who helped fund for the film.
